Breaking: Earthquake of Magnitude 7.3 Hits China

Beijing: European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in the Tajikistan region and China reported a magnitude 7.3 earthquake close to Tajikistan’s border in Xinjiang province on Thursday at around 8:37 a.m. (0037 GMT) at a depth of 10 km.

Chinese state media also confirmed the reports saying, “Preliminary results showed that a magnitude-7.3 earthquake jolted near China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

According to CCTV, the epicentre, which is around 82 km from the closest Chinese border, was felt most powerfully in Kashgar and Artux in the western Xinjiang region.

According to CCTV, the average elevation is roughly 4,655 metres (15,300 feet) within 5 miles of the epicentre. There are no reports of any loss of life so far. More details are awaited.
